Frown lines between your eyebrows can appear when you’re making facial expressions besides just frowning. Commonly called worry lines and technically known as glabellar lines, these signs of aging develop as a result of furrowing your brows, such as when you’re angry, confused, squinting or even yawning.
These vertical furrows between the brows are considered dynamic wrinkles because they appear when we make facial expressions involving muscle movement. As we age, frown lines can become engraved in our skin and remain visible when we’re no longer making facial expressions. This can cause us to have a permanently angry or upset appearance even when we’re happy.
Dysport offers an excellent non-surgical option for treating existing frown lines and preventing them from forming in the first place.
Dysport is a prescription injectable made of purified botulinum toxin type A (abobotulinumtoxinA). This FDA-approved medication is designed to improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines between the eyebrows.
As a type of neuromodulator, Dysport works by inhibiting the movement of forehead muscles that cause frown lines/glabellar lines. By preventing the nerves from telling these muscles to contract, the muscles remain relaxed and allow the wrinkles to become smooth for a naturally youthful appearance.
You may be a good candidate for Dysport if you are over the age of 18 and bothered by frown lines between your eyebrows. While it was previously most popular with female patients, Dysport is ideal for patients of any gender identity and is becoming increasingly popular for male patients. Candidates should be in good overall health and not be allergic to any of the ingredients in Dysport.
At The Lifestyle Center, we offer complimentary personalized consultations so we can learn about your concerns and recommend the best treatment or combination of treatments for your needs. We’ll evaluate your medical history, assess your area(s) of concern, explain the treatment process and answer any questions you might have about Dysport or other treatments.
Once we thoroughly understand your cosmetic goals and you have complete knowledge of the treatment, we will help determine if Dysport is ideal for you.
Dysport injections are typically placed into the forehead between the eyebrows using very small 31-gauge needles.
You will not need to plan for any downtime after Dysport. You can resume most of your daily activities as usual, but keep your head upright (do not lie down) for the first four hours after your procedure.
For the first day after your Dysport treatment, we recommend avoiding the following:
Some wrinkle reduction may be noticeable immediately after Dysport treatment, but full results typically take two to three days to develop.
Dysport injections provide wrinkle-smoothing results that last up to five months. Patients often schedule repeat treatments every five months or so to maintain their results.
The cost of Dysport treatment will depend on the depth and length of your frown lines and how many Dysport units are needed. After your personalized consultation, we will be able to tell you the specific cost of your treatment.
Dysport provides very natural-looking results, so you won’t look frozen or stiff after treatment. No one has to know you underwent Dysport injections unless you want to tell them.
Rare but potential side effects of Dysport include redness, itching, swelling, bruising, headache, nausea and eyelid swelling and drooping. These are typically harmless and resolve on their own within a few days to a few weeks. You can reduce your risk of Dysport side effects and adverse results by undergoing treatment with a qualified, experienced injector.
Dysport is an injectable neuromodulator that works similarly to BOTOX Cosmetic. While they are both made from purified botulinum toxin type A, their formulations differ in molecular weight and thickness. This makes each product uniquely appropriate for various treatment areas and indications.
Dysport is mainly used for improving glabellar lines between the eyebrows, while BOTOX is indicated for treating multiple dynamic wrinkles. Dysport results tend to appear sooner and last longer than the results of BOTOX.
At The Lifestyle Center, we offer both BOTOX and Dysport as well as another neuromodulator called Jeuveau. At your consultation, we will explain the benefits of each neuromodulator treatment to help determine which one will best achieve your cosmetic goals.
Yes! If you have signs of aging or cosmetic concerns in other areas of your face or body, ask us about additional treatments. Dermal fillers are another type of injectable treatment that restores volume and fills wrinkles in the middle and lower face. Laser skin rejuvenation can address acne, rosacea, scars, wrinkles and more. Thread lifts can elevate sagging skin in the mid to lower face, such as sunken cheeks and drooping jowls. These and other treatments can be combined with Dysport to address multiple aesthetic concerns.
